Hot Weather Policy

BASEBALL SA HEAT POLICY AS AT 4th JANUARY 2017

SENIOR HEAT POLICY:   Forecast Temperature 37, 38, 39 Degrees.

If the forecast temperature at 6 pm on the evening prior to competition is 37, 38 or 39 degrees as broadcast on any Radio Station (AM or FM), or as per the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Forecast found at http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml then the following game limitations shall apply to all senior games.

*For all games modified by the Heat Rule courtesy runners may be used for catchers

DIVISION 1 – Single Game

7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 1 – Double Header

Both Games to be 7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 1 – Twilight

7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 2 – 4:

7 innings or 90 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 5 -7:

7 innings or 90 minutes. Mercy rule to apply – 7 runs per innings

MASTERS AND WOMEN’S:

5 innings or 90 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 75 minutes

SENIOR HEAT POLICY:   Forecast Temperature 40 Degrees or Above.

If the forecast temperature at 6 pm on the evening prior to competition is 40 degrees or above as broadcast on any Radio Station (AM or FM) or as per the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Forecast found at http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml then the following game limitations shall apply to all senior games.

SENIOR DIVISION 2 AND BELOW:

Cancelled – Cancelled games may be rescheduled.

MASTERS AND WOMEN’S:

Cancelled – Cancelled games may be rescheduled.

DIVISION 1 – Single Game

Game time moved to 11:00 am.   7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 1 – Double Header

Game 1:   Game time moved to 11:00 am.   7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply -10 runs in front after 5 innings.

Game 2:   Cancelled – to be re-scheduled as a twilight game  – 7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings.

DIVISION 1 – Twilight

7 innings or 120 minutes. No new innings to start after 120 minutes.

Mercy Rule to apply – 10 runs in front after 5 innings. 

 JUNIOR HEAT POLICY:   Forecast Temperature 37 Degrees

All Junior Baseball (Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Under 19) will be cancelled if the forecast temperature at 6 pm on the evening prior to competition is 37 degrees or above as broadcast on any Radio Station (AM or FM)  or as per the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Forecast found at http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml. Cancelled rounds will not be re-scheduled.

JUNIORS PLAYING SENIOR BASEBALL:

A Child/Junior (underage player) cannot participate in a Senior Baseball game when the forecast temperature is 37 degrees or above at 6 pm on the evening  prior to competition as broadcast on any Radio Station (AM or FM) or as per the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Forecast found at http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml without parental consent obtained by the Club.

JUNIOR UMPIRE/OFFICIAL:

No Junior Umpire (17 years of age and under) may officiate in any game, both senior or junior, if the forecast temperature at 6 pm on the evening prior to competition is 37 degrees or above as broadcast on any Radio Station (AM or FM) or as per the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Forecast found at http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml.

SHADE:

The Board cannot see why each Club cannot provide even basic shade structures for all their diamonds. If adequate shade is not supplied or erected within 20 minutes of the game start time then the home team will lose the game 9-0, and be fined $50.00 per offence. In these circumstances in Youth games (Under 11, 13, 15) the loss will be 7-9.

BASEBALL SA UMPIRES’ HEAT RULE:  37 Degrees and Above

Additional Requirements

No Umpire will work 2 games behind the plate

Minimum 2 minute break in between each half innings

If any half innings extends beyond 20 minutes, there will be a mandatory 4 minute break

Home Team to provide a shade structure for the umpires.

In the event of a club base umpire appointed to a Division 1 Game, the BUASA appointed umpire can decide to umpire the game by himself from behind the pitcher, if he so desires.

If at any time, the plate umpire believes it is unsafe to play due to extreme heat conditions, then they have the ability to suspend or cancel the game – refer to SABL Local Rules Playing Conditions 59.6.5 and 59.7.1.

59.6.5   ABANDONED ROUNDS. – ALL.

With the exception of Division 1 Abandoned Games will not be re-scheduled

DIVISION ONE

Any round of Division One (afternoon or twilight fixture) will be constituted as a complete round of matches if four or more of the six games are played to a result. Furthermore should four be completed the other two will be rescheduled; if five are completed the remaining one will be rescheduled. Should only three or less than three games be played to a result, then the entire round will be declared as a “No Round”

59.7 SUSPENDED GAMES – WEATHER – ALL

7.1  The Plate Umpire will be the sole judge as to whether and when play shall be suspended during a game because of unsuitable weather conditions or an unfit playing field, and whether, and when, play will resume or be terminated. This includes extreme heat conditions.

7.2  With the exception of suspensions due to extreme heat conditions, the plate umpire will not call the game until at least 30 minutes after he/she has suspended the game. He/she may continue the suspension as long as deemed necessary if there is a chance play may resume. In Time Limit Games refer Rule 4.2 and 8.1.
